Showtokan MMA

"moment", like the gentle reader at the sight of the title for think of this story, "what have your Shotokan Karate and MMA together?" After all, yet representative of the Karate style get fully in control of the cap if they dare in a MMA tournament. But wait, not so fast: One of the two very different approaches to martial arts definitely have in common: they unite in myself.

I trained from 2002 to 2007 Shotokan Karate. No, not the original Shotokan Gichin Funakoshi of, but a modern, competitive sport-oriented version, the sight would be the style founders turning in their graves. Currently I train MMA. Anyway, when I'm fit exceptionally ... .

What brings a Shotokan for MMA? As indicated above, should not participate Shotokanler without special preparation of a MMA tournament. On the ground, he would be destroyed and in standup him the deep coverage would not just give advantages. That the approach to unarmed combat, as represented in Shotokan, is completely useless for Mixed Martial Arts, I think not. As proof I can give a fighter who has a martial arts Vita, which the mine is not unlike (although its level is higher by light years): Lyoto Machida. The South American with Japanese roots has been training since the age of five and is currently in Shotokan UFC successfully. MMA expert Matthew Ross holds him even for one who could be among the greats in the cage fighter scene.

His fighting style much different from that of someone who has trained thousands of boxes, as is common in the scene. He stands toe to toe, not with his opponent and then try this to cut down, but maintains a very evasive style of fighting. As a foil fencer, he bridged the distance fired at his opponent, made a precise combination and then moves quickly back again, as is usually done in Shotokan competitions. The whole thing is of course possible to me an outstanding speed and an above-average Distance feeling. Machida has undoubtedly both.

would sooner or later, I also engage in the MMA competition. We'll see: Maybe I'll even the German Lyoto Machida. ;)
